Deering Fish & Game Range Rules

Ranges are for club member use only and one accompanied guest. Members with guest are restricted to using one shooting station when ranges are crowded.

Members shall be in full control of and are responsible for their guest. Junior members of a group must be supervised by an adult aged 18 or older.

Red/Orange flags are now in use on all ranges. The range flag must be displayed to signal a cease fire on all ranges when shooters wish to go forward of the firing line. Failure to cease fire on display of the flag on any range will result in suspension of range privileges for that member.

1 – Firearm muzzles shall be pointed in a safe direction at all times.

2 – All uncased and un-holstered firearms shall remain unloaded and actions open when people are forward of the firing lines. No firearms shall be handled when people are forward of the firing lines.

3 – 100 Yard Range:  Any range user may call an immediate cease fire when an unsafe condition exists on any range.

Range users are not allowed to climb up on the berms.

Targets shall normally be placed as close as practical to the backstop berm and centered up and down.

Target holders will be used to hold paper targets. Targets are not allowed to be stapled directly onto the target stand cross beams.

        a)            – Targets that cause the fired bullets to ricochet (steel, etc.) must be placed as close as possible to the              front of the berm so deflected bullets still impact the berm.

        b)            – Targets that bullets pass through (paper, cardboard, etc.) may be moved closer to the firing line, but              must be positioned so that all bullets fired at the targets still impact the front of the berm.

        c)            -Targets that capture the fired bullets (such as bowling pins, blocks of wood, etc.) shall be positioned so          that misses and bullets that pass through the targets will still impact the berm.

        d)            – Shotguns may be used, however, only slugs and buckshot. No birdshot shall be used on the 100 yard            range.

        e)            – It shall be the sole responsibility of the member to ensure fired bullets impact the berm. The shooter is          responsible for every bullet he fires. Targets are not to be placed on the floor of the range or in such a manner              that fired bullets DO NOT hit the range berm. Bullets hitting the range floor usually bounce over the berm and              are  a hazard to the surrounding area. Intentionally targeting any part of the target stands is prohibited.

Red/Orange flags are now in use on all ranges. The flag must be displayed to signal a cease fire on all ranges when shooters wish to go forward of the firing line. Failure to cease fire on display of the flag on any range will result in suspension of range privileges for that member.

Handguns: Firearms designed for use with one hand and no other method of support when firing. Typically these fire arms have barrels less than 16 inches in length and include revolvers, single, double, and four shot break action handguns, and semi-automatic pistols.

Firing Line: The front edge of the shooting positions (covered or uncovered) on the 100 yard rifle range, the front of the rear trap machine stand, and the buried pole in front of the 25 yard pistol range shed.
